West Bohemia - between beer and Bohemian forest

In the west of Czechia, a historically rich cultivated landscape extends along the frontier with Germany. In the three famous spas Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne and Františkovy Lázně, there are the most important mineral springs in the Czech Republic. The mountain ranges of the Bohemian Forest and the Ore Mountains invite visitors to hike or ski.

In Marianske Lazne, the first sanatorium was built in 1805. Top-class spa concerts take place in the extensive park. Another attraction is the “Singing fountain” in front of the setting of the old colonnades. Not far from the spa lies the monastery of Tepla with its library which is well worth seeing, too.

Not only beer aficionados will learn a lot of interesting facts about the drink in the brewery museum. The historical city centre is also worth a visit, particularly the gothic Saint-Bartholomeus church which possesses Czechia’s highest steeple.
