Ulmen, The Eifel

 

Prepare to be astonished how much the holiday destination of Ulmen has to offer. We are situated in the Vulcan Eifel. The most recent of the maars (craters formed from extinct volcanoes) is the Ulmen Maar, beautifully embedded amidst a ruined castle, a church and old half-timbered houses.

The castle still bears witness to life in medieval times, and our history tells of both crusaders and robber knights. Relax in the cosy atmosphere of an ice cream parlour or restaurant on the old Post Office Square, sitting outside if the weather permits.

The Jungferweiher Mere offers one of the most beautiful official bird protection areas in Germany. Hike around the two bodies of water, the mere and the maar.
