The island is as different as the varied choices it offers you. Near the airport you can find several four and five star resorts, as well as smaller local guesthouses and hotels. There you can come across the same tourist infrastructure as any other tourist destination (restaurants, banks, shops, dive centers, etc.), plus several good bathing beaches and the Western Hemisphere´s largest coral formation (the Buccoo reef). This area is also very warm and is the driest part of Tobago. The best beaches are at Pigeon Point and Store Bay.
As you travel north, you will encounter the small villages of Mason Hall, Moriah, Castara, Parlatuvier and Chalottesville. The air will become cooler and the flora will become much greener and denser. You are on the edge of the Tobago´s lush rainforest. Life is definitely slower here. The walks through the forest are wonderful and the beaches are perfect. In fact, CondeNast travel magazine recently named Englishman´s Bay beach as one of the world´s ten best. It is truly special.
The beaches at Castara, Parlatuvier, Bloody Bay and Charlottesville are all worth mentioning. You will find the Caribbean surf is mild and the people friendly.
Tobago´s eastern coast is also unique. This is the Atlantic or windward side of the island. You will find the surf here somewhat rougher and more unpredictable than on the Caribbean coast. There are still several good bathing spots, however. Speyside (which also features Tobago´s best scuba spots), King´s Bay and Bacolet all provide for enjoyable bathing. Bacolet is noteworthy as providing the location for the 1960´s Disney film, Swiss Family Robinson.
Do yourself a favor. Come to Tobago and discover one of the world´s remaining unspoiled tourist stops. Immerse yourself in its serenity. The Beatles did it. Members of the Royal family do it. You should try it too?
