Tenerife Island, Canary islands

 

Tenerife is probably the Canary Island which could collect the most superlatives. The largest of the Canaries, with up to 5 million visitors a year, has the highest occupancy rate and with the Teide, also the highest mountain in Spain and the Atlantic. To ease down from so many impressive records, try one of the many fine sandy beaches right in front of your own hotel room.

One of the tourist centers is Puerto La Cruz, where aside from obligatory water sports and animation programs, you will also find Loro Park which shows almost every animal ranging from an orca to gorillas, which will enthuse even the youngest visitors.

The surfer city El Medano seems to have been created especially for friends of water sports. But also active vacationers can find new inspiration here for adventurous hikes in fertile vegetation after a cable car ride with a great view to the top of the Teide Mountain (3718 meters high).

From here with the right binoculars, you might be able to see your traditional vacation home or the owner of your cozy pension waving to you.
