Tallin, Estonia – historical town at the Baltic Sea

With a good 400,000 inhabitants Tallin is not only the biggest metropolis of the European state Estonia, but also its capital and cultural centre. It is located in the north of the Baltic state, directly at the Finnish bay of the Baltic Sea. As probably the most important town of Estonia most places of interest and therefore most extensive tourist developments are also found here of course.

Therefore it is hardly surprising that it is not difficult to find a pleasant accommodation for everyone. Many interesting hotels, flats and holiday apartments have established in the capital and offer an ideal starting point for quite a special town holiday to the guests. An extremely charming place of interest of Tallin is its historical Old Town.

It is that well-preserved that it has been defined even by UNESCO to the world cultural heritage in 1997. At times of the knights and kings Tallin was safest town at the Baltic Sea. Reference is the today’s 1.85-kilometres-long and 13 to 16 metre high city wall.

A walk along this immense building relegates the visitor back to long ago. Moreover you hit the gigantic cannon tower "Dicke Margarethe". However, Tallin is meanwhile also a very modern town which also offers excellent shopping possibilities beside its holiday apartments, hotels and pensions of the Old Town.
