Water is the dominating element in the Swedish capital Stockholm In winter, you can ice skate between Stockholm’s 14 islands or catch salmon in summer in the city center. The lack of heavy industry maintains the water quality in the perhaps cleanest city in the world and also makes bathing possible. Therefore, the third of the city area covered in water is ideal for an exploration tour by boat or canoe.
One of Europe’s best preserved Old Town centers (Gamla Stan) can be found on the island of Stadsholmen.

In the north, palaces like the knights’ house or the royal castle or the Storkyrkan cathedral invite you to sightseeing. The isle of Norrmalm is the center of the Swedish welfare state with the government quarter in which one of the modern shopping streets, Drottninggaten, lies. The event calendar is full with diverse museums and concerts and attests Stockholm’s rank as one of the most creative cities in the world.

But aside from the endless cultural choices, the parks and nature reservations are Stockholm’s real highlights, no matter if directly on the isle of Djurgården, the 24000 islands of the Skärgården sailing paradise in the Baltic Sea or in one of the countless forested parks.
