Southampton, England – one of the oldest harbours of its country

Approx. 70 miles southwest of the English capital London directly at the English Channel you find the seaport Southampton. If you decide for a holiday apartment, a hotel or a room in one of the numerous flats of this city you spend your holiday in a very popular holiday area. The history of Southampton goes back to the time of the Romans. Around 70 A. D. they established at the point of the today's town a residential area which is called Clausentum.

Not only at the times of the Roman the harbour of the town was very important even today it is very famous. In 1912 the fateful journey of the famous Titanic started from here. Actually Southampton is the most important European place of departure of the modern cruise ship. More than 200 of these swimming hotels yearly start its trips in all seas of our planet from there, under it even the famous ship "Queen Mary 2".

In the "Museum of Archaeology" which is located in a military tower of the 15th century and called "God's House Tower" historical-interested visitors are able to visit different discoveries of the Roman's time.

Of course, a National Maritime Museum may not be absent in a port. In a warehouse of the 14th century it can be discovered. It is called „Maritime Museum“.

Moreover, a visit of the steep coasts is worthwhile and can be fast and simple reached from the holiday apartment, the Bed & Breakfast lodging or the hotel in Southampton.
