Experience they south Lithuania - you will never forget it!

Until Vilnius became Lithuania’s capital city, the country often changed its capital cities. Kernave, for example, was the first capital city, to which the four preserved castle hills still attest today. Lithuania’s most-visited sight Trakai was the country’s second capital city. Today, this castle, which is beautifully set on an island, is surely one of the most beautiful places in Eastern Europe.

The second largest city, Kaunas, was a temporary capital city between the two World Wars and is today considered as the “most Lithuanian” big city of the country. Between the high steeples, visitors can amble along Freedom Avenue to the historic centre, passing cafes, museums and restaurants.

Situated on the confluence of the rivers Memel and Neris, the city well displays the vividness of student life which has revived in the shade of the Church of St. George. Kaunas even laid out a lake in a reservoir which invites its guests to bathe or ice-skate.

Lithuania shows a different image depending on the season: in the winter, you will find snowy woods and frozen lakes; in the spring, meadows and pastures will bloom and move in a gentle breeze. Many hiking and cycling paths lead visitors’ excursions from a holiday home or a rustical guesthouse to the open-air museum Rumsiskes, for example, where tourists can enjoy a picnic in the middle of rural architecture and arts and crafts.

A hotel or holiday home in the centrally situated Kaunas is the perfect starting point for excursions into the green or frozen woods or the Lithuanian culture since the ways are short but beautiful in Lithuania.
