South Bohemia - Between proud castles and quiet lakes

South of the Czech capital Prague lies the region of South Bohemia. Picturesque towns, wide woody areas, vast meadow and moor landscapes, numerous lakes and impressive castles characterise this popular holiday destination. Holidays in a vacation home or hotel in South Bohemia offer manifold possibilities to relax and familiarise visitors with the vivid art and history of this Czech region. The friendliness of the people in the holiday homes and hotels there sets a good example.

The centre of South Bohemia is Ceskè Budejovice (Budweis), which is widely known not only for its famous beer. Magnificent renaissance and baroque buildings line the streets of the town. Near the town you will find the Hluboká Castle with its winter garden and precious art collections, which was based on the English Windsor Castle.

Czechia’s largest artificial lake, the Lipno reservoir with a length of 48 kilometres, is also located in South Bohemia. Swimmers, surfers, divers or fishers will find best conditions there. Those wanting to explore the lakeside should use one of the well-constructed bike paths.

Rural traditions have lived on in Holasovice. Characteristic baroque-style houses of the 13th century gather round the village’s pond. Another excursion into the past is also promised by the primeval forest of Boubin. In Czechia’s oldest wildlife sanctuary, tourists will come across trees that are 400 years of age while walking along a nature trail which is three kilometres long.
