Holidays in Skåne, in the south of Sweden

In the very south of Sweden, in the place where once Pippi Longstocking lived and ragged and where today Commissioner Kurt Wallander solves tricky criminal cases, lies the administrative district of Scania (Skåne in the national language). Until the 17th century, the area belonged to Denmark, and alert tourists will quickly become aware of the connection to the southwestern neighbouring country, for example by looking at the architecture of the larger cities in this region.

One of those places is Malmö, for example, where you absolutely should take a walk through the small town idyll near the Lilla Torg or visit the magnificent renaissance buildings at the main market, the “Stortorget”.

You can also spend your holiday in a hotel that doesn’t look as Swedish as you would expect. From Sweden’s third largest city, the towns of Ystad and Helsingborg are only a stone’s throw away. Those going on a relaxing excursion through the densely wooded plain of Skåne by car, bus or train will quickly find themselves again in the middle of pristine nature.

The image that crosses anyone’s mind when people talk about Sweden suddenly becomes real here. Forests, as far as the eye can reach, and in the most beautiful places, idyllic holiday homes invite tourists to rest and stay.

This is just one of the reasons why you should think about spending your next holidays in the south of Sweden. For there is still a lot to discover in the land of gardens and parks Scania, amidst breathtaking sceneries and friendly people whose hearts quickly warm up to those tourists being able to utter a few words in Swedish.
