The federal state of Saxony features the holiday areas of Dresden, the Ore Mountains, the Oberlausitz region, Saxon Switzerland/Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the so-called Land of Castles and Heath and the Vogtland region.

Each holiday region provides hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfast, holiday apartments and holiday houses. Each region has plenty to offer, such as the cultural city of Dresden with the Semper Opera House, the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) and its numerous museums. Shopping in the Altmarkt Gallery in the city centre attracts visitors to Dresden on a global scale, a further particular worldwide draw being the Strietzelmarkt Christmas Market held every year in December.

 

Holiday in Saxony

Saxon Switzerland, or the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, features such places as Bad Schandau, situated on the Elbe cycling path, the Königstein Fortress, the Bastei Rock, the town of Sebnitz, famous for the manufacturer of silk flowers, the natural stage under the cliffs at Rathen and a plethora of small resorts such as Rathen, Wehlen, Obervogelgesang on the Elbe, Saupsdorf, Lichtenhain an der Hohen Straße and Hinterhermsdorf, to name just a few.

The romantic Kirnitzsch Valley featuring the Kirnitzsch Valley railway attracts visitors from near and far to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, taking them to the Kuhstall Rock and on to the Smaller and Larger Winterberg Mountains.
