Santiago de Compostela, on the Road to Santiago

Santiago de Compostela is situated in the autonomous region Galicia, in the northwest of Spain and outermost western part of the whole European continent. The place where the Romans once supposed to find the middle of nowhere, today, among the rest, a wonderful choice of holiday apartments, pensions, flats and hotels is to be found.

In 2000 Santiago de Compostela might bear the proud name of the „cultural capital of Europe“. For over thousand of years the biggest centre of attraction is the cathedral of the place in the charming Old Town. By the way, the facade of this cathedral is illustrated on the Spanish cent coins.

Millions of Christians from all over the world already made a pilgrimage to it. Legend has it that the grave of Jakobus, the oldest apostle of Jesus, should be situated below the altar of the cathedral. Thus it is not surprising, that the whole Old Town of Santiago de Compostela is accounted as a well-worth seeing and protection-worth UNESCO world cultural heritage.

According to traffic the town itself is bound ideally. It can show even an own airport. Within the shortest time the Atlantic with its wonderful coastal scenery can be reached, e.g., by a hired car or the bus. Especially water sportsmen will find a paradise there or you can dedicate to take endless walks.
