Zhejiang - 3000 islands

The province of Zhejiang is located on the east coast of China. More than 3,000 small offshore islands in the China Sea belong to its region. The city Hangzhou is the centre of the province and offers accommodation in several hotels of international standard. The vast bay Hangzhou Wan separates it of the city limit of the city province Shanghai, China’s biggest and most important economic metropolis.

The most recent and important major project in the province of Zhejiang is the construction of the 36 km long Qiantang Bridge over the bay in order to guarantee a faster accessibility of Shanghai.

 

Zhejiang’s landscapes are characterised by rugged mountains. This is why most of the province’s cities and towns are to be found along the relatively flat coastline.

The big relaxation and tourist centre Xi Hu (“West Lake“) near Hangzhou shows a plurality of different sights, such as historical temples and typical Chinese wooden bridges. The tea producing regions and silk factories which are located in the urban area of the province’s capital are also interesting. Starting in Hangzhou, tourists can easily reach the bustling seaport Ningbo with its important historical temple complexes – Qiuta Temple and Baogu Temple.

The mega-city Shanghai is also well worth a visit. Its most important sights are the boulevard “Bund“, the Long Hua Pagoda, the Jade Buddha Temple and numerous museums.
