A bear and a strawberry tree? A seemingly senseless constellation, which has developed to Madrid’s landmark and emblem. Both geographically and culturally, Madrid is the pulsating centre of Spain that only sleeps during the siesta.

At dawn, tourists could start their first walk from Madrid’s central meeting point “Puerta del Sol” next to the seat of the Spanish royal family in the “Palacio Real”. A walk through the shopping streets Carmen and Praciados to Plaza de Pontejos, where many traditional shops offer their goods, leaves behind a first impression of the metropolis’s inexhaustible choice of products. Breathe in the unique air of this city from the window of your holiday flat or hotel room.

One of the world’s most precious cities concerning cultural institutions awaits you. World-famous museums such as the Museo del Prado, the Museo Tyssen-Bornemisza and the Centro de Arte Reyna Sofia exhibit masterpieces of all big artists of the world. Have a rest in the old royal park El Retiro, where the fragrances of numerous flowers mingle with those of freshly grinded coffee in the shade of ancient trees and the Puerta de Alcalá.

In the evening, you can choose between different shows, from flamenco to jazz, in the pubs and restaurants of Malasaña, Huertas or Chueca. Enjoy yourself during the whole night until the sun rises again over Puerta del Sol.

Those who are interested in the metropolis but prefer waking up without noise will surely find a finca, a holiday home or a guesthouse in the surroundings of Madrid. Already the Madrilenian kings escaped their summer residence near Aranjuez.
