Province Anhui, China

 

Anhui is one of the centrally situated landlocked provinces of China. Because of the large, rank lowlands around the rivers Yangtse and the Huai, Anhui is mainly marked by agriculture. The province is one of the centres for the production of paper and the old art of Chinese calligraphy. The provincial capital Hefei is a pure industrial town. It is located in the centre of Anhuis and, therefore, can be well used for a place of departure for excursions.

In the south of the province the interesting mountains Huangshan with its highest summit, the 1873-m-high Lotus Peak pokes out. The legendary steep crests of the so-called yellow mountain which are surrounded by a veil of mist are often motives in pictures of Chinese artists. In the closer field of the mountains tourists will find a variety of good hotels.

Especially worth seeing places nearby the mountaings are small towns like Xidi and Hongcun which count to the world cultural heritage. Their luxuriously decorated timber-frame constructions derive from the time of the Ming-and Quing-dynasty.

Similar buildings are also found in the historical centre of the small town Tunxi. The Mont Jiuhua is valid as one of the four holy mountains of Buddha which reside on the area of China. It is surrounded by miraculous green scenery with thermal springs and deep woods.
