The classical approach by ferry is probably the best way to plunge into the maritime climate of Western Lithuania. On Lithuania’s amber coast, Klaipeda will be the first city where you are on terra firma again.
But the sailor romance remains there and is supplemented by renovated half-timbered houses of the town’s old artisans. This combination provides the unique atmosphere of Klaipedas or Memel, as it was called in the past. From Klaipeda, the way leads to Klaipeda Region, the close Courland Spit or the bathing resort Palanga.

The once most beautiful village of the former Soviet Region Nida has still remained an idyllic health resort. It is regularly visited by artists looking for inspiration here and obviously also finding it on the white, pine-lined sandy beaches. The holiday home of Thomas Mann’s family has already offered a desk after extended walks in the desert-like wandering dune scenery of the Courland Spit – a holiday idea that is often imitated.

The amber coast attracts visitors with its treasures which turn every storm into a treasure hunter’s hope to find one or two fossil resin drops on the next day. In the amber museums of Palanga or Nida, you can let yourself be carried away into the world of the Vikings’ gold.

The way home between birch, pine and spruce woods is ideal for cycling or hiking so that every breath of the fresh sea air has its healing effect before you recover from the stresses and strains of everyday life in front of the chimney in your guesthouse, hotel room or your own holiday flat.
