Northwest Ireland, Ireland

The Best Of Ireland May Be In The Northwest

Northwestern Ireland is not the usual travel destination because of its remoteness from the rest of Ireland.  But there are so many attractions and it is far less crowded, even during peak travel times, that it has become a very desirable place to visit.

Originally owned and built by the O’Donnell clan in the fifteenth century, the Donegal Castle is situated next to the river Eske in northwest Ireland.  The castle is open for tours of this top heritage site, including the famed tapestries and Persian rugs, from March to October.

Guided tours of the Glebe House and Gallery in northwest Ireland can last forty-five minutes.  The gallery houses works by more than three hundred local and international twentieth century artists. The collection also includes work by Picasso. The historic buildings and wooded gardens add even more old world charm to the tour.

Another reason to travel to northwestern Ireland is cost savings. Because fewer tourists know about this unspoiled region, everything from accommodations to playing rounds of golf cost a fraction of vacationing in more popular tourist destinations in Ireland.
