Region Murcia, Spanish (mainland)

 

Although Murcia is one of the driest regions in Europe, a unique, family-friendly world of relaxation has developed here in the southeast of Spain. Probably more than 300 days of sunshine per year are the main reason for this development. La Zenia and Camponar are two of the marvellous beaches which can easily be reached from the surrounding holiday flats in just a few minutes.

Whether you like sailing, diving, snorkelling, water skiing or fishing, there are innumerable offers also for beginners. Along the coasts of Cabo de Palos and Portmán to Cartagena or Mazarrón, tourists can also take the opportunity and test hiking, cycling or even riding tours in the countryside. Visitors can also explore Murcia’s hinterland from a wide network of fincas (the Spanish country homes) and holiday homes.

Nature parks like Espuña or El Valle make you forget the stress at home. But of course, culture aficionados will also get their money’s worth: part of Spanish history is reflected in cities such as the old frontier fortress Lorca or the Carthaginian city Cartagena.

Much more modern, on the other hand, is the capital city Murcia. The university town has a very young image despite its historical architecture. After a walk in the area around the street “La Tráperia“, you can best watch the hustle and bustle of Spanish street life in one of the many cafes. Then you can go to the new main shopping street “Gran Via” and buy some souvenirs for those who stayed at home or a small present for yourself because you decided to spend your holidays in Murcia.
