Missouri, United States

Missouri, located on the passage from the forest lands of the east to the Great Plains is especially worth seeing in the south. In the Ozark Mountains nature has remained nearly untouched. The city of Hannibal, where Mark Twain grew up, lies in the northwest of Missouri.

Today a museum and his birth house, among other things, are a reminder of the famous author. Further in the west lies the birthplace of the Pony Express and Jesse James made trouble here.

Some of this Wild West romanticism can still be felt today especially in the smaller towns. The larger cities in Missouri are St. Louis and Kansas City.

St. Louis, located charmingly on the Mississippi, is especially worth a visit. The 190 meter high Gateway Arch is the landmark of this cosmopolitan city. Kansas City, which lies in Missouri as well as in Kansas, has a changeful past which the Art Deco buildings still show today.

You will almost always find a moderately priced hotel or motel in the vicinity of St. Louis or Kansas City. In the country, a vacation apartment or house is a low price alternative
