Manila – History and culture at the bay of Manila

The magnificent location on the main island Luzon and on the bay of Manila compose the special charm of this city. Manila also offers many sights. So the mostancient church made of stone of the Philippines was built here – the church San Augustin. Also the impressive cathedral, the Fort Santiago and the coconut palace are well worth the visit.

Many museums lure you out of your boarding house when the weather is not so fine. Visit the Ayala museum with the 60 hand made dioramas. They show the history of the Philippines. You can have a look on the life of the people in the 19th century at the Casa Manila – a restoren Spanish merchant´s house.

 

Also the Metropolitan Museum, the Cultural Center of the Philippines or the National Museum are awaiting you. The Rizal Park invites for extensive walks.
If you want to shop to your heart´s content then start to the Mall of Asia. Approximately 500 shops and restaurants are open for you in the largest shopping mall of the Philippines.

The Philippine food has not a good reputation. But American Fast Food chains can be found at many streets here. Apart from that you should try the rice cake Bibingka or the Halo-Halo desert. The Balut extremely takes getting used tofor Europeans, a boiled egg where a nearly developed bird is inside.
