Malta, the ninth smallest country of the world, is famous as being the island of stones. Tourists will mainly be fascinated by the contrasts within the country. On the one hand there are numerous major cities with a typical urban flair on the other hand one will find secluded villages. The “island between two continents” melts a mixture of the Arabic, Italian and British lifestyle.

There are considerable more hotels on the island of Malta than on the neighbouring island Gozo. Everyone searching a quiet holiday far away from the mass tourism should choose Gozo as destination. Malta is the better recommendation for party animals and active vacationers. Malta is since a longer period of time no insiders tip for sailors, surfers and divers.

On the other hand Malta offers many highlights also for those interested in culture. The temple complex Hagar Qim in the Southeastern part of the island has to be emphasized, this originates from the Stone Age.  The Tarxien temples are also interesting, they are more than 5,000 years old and an important cultural-historical monument.

A liked motive for photos on the island of Malta are the tiny fisher boats, called Luzzus. You will find them in the few fishermen´s villages on the island. A tourist attraction of the special type is the Popeye Village on Malta, in 1979 the movie with this name has been made. Holidaymakers feel like being transferred to the South Seas.
