Magdeburg, 1100 years old, is the magnificent provincial capital of Saxony-Anhalt: it is a feast for the eyes with its old cloisters, parish churches and its impressive 17th century city hall. This city was built on stone and will last forever. It lies picturesquely on the Elbe River surrounded by beautiful scenery, for example the Flaeming and the charming town of Quedlinburg.

Magdeburg’s name goes back to the word “Machte”, which means as much as „strong”, so the “strong fortress”. But adjectives like „beautiful“, „traditional“ or „modern“ also fit well to this city.

If you stroll through Magdeburg, you should not miss the Millennium Tower, a new attraction since 1999 and Magdeburg’s town landmark as well. It is 60 meters high and the tallest wooden building in Germany and in its museum it takes its visitors through 6000 years of scientific and technical history, from early cultures to the times of today. The observation deck at a height of 42 meters offers a fascinating view over all of Magdeburg.
