Oderland of the Mark Brandenburg? Where is it, please?

Well, Fontane, Brecht or Egon Erwin Kisch would have had immediately an answer down pat. They had discovered this regional beauty little spot of Germany at the time themselves and can scoop a large part of their creativity, there in the eastern edge of the pulsating metropolis Berlin, in Buckow. There are people who think that the Mark of Brandenburg is situated in the middle of nowhere and that’s what was behind it all.

Far from it! In the last years more and more people who are in need of a rest discovered this hardly 8000 square kilometres corner between the federal capital and the Polish border. Expanded cycle ways across plain country along the river “Oder” attracts bicycle travelling tourists. Endlessly many lakes, linked by small rivers and canals let the heart of every interior-captain beat faster.

Active vacation is the magic word. Ethnic, familial controlled guesthouses and country inn hotels invite to a longer stay. On the way through the Oderland of the Mark Brandenburg many things can be discovered. For a long time, Bad Freienwalde, for example, is a cure-insider tip for orthopaedics and rheumatic patients.

And above all for the lusty there is the magic garden of Kretschmanns’, the innovators of the “Nature Conservation Owl”. And not to forget, the ski jumps. The extent- and fallout shelter of Seelow in Harnekop show a vivid picture about German military- and war history. Castle Neuhardenberg a few steps from Seelow revived to new shine and are always worth a visit.

As well as the “Lebus”-country with its pheasant’s eye slops are an absolute highlight in the spring. And thus the row of the places of interest can be proceeded, the “cement town” Rüdersdorf, the film museum in Golzow, the open-air museum of Altranft and all the rest of it. There only remains to say: Drive there, take a holiday! It is worthwhile!
