Luxembourg City, Distrikt Luxemburg

 

Luxembourg is a city of boulevards – many magnificent business streets are strung together with even more theaters as proof for the lively cultural life here. In summer, the Place d’Armes, the former parade ground, is a meeting place for young and old. 

The city’s image is characterized by the Pétrusse Valley. Pedestrians enjoy it here since it is a car free zone which separates the upper city from the train station district. In the upper city, there is another pedestrian zone in the Groussgaass. People interested in history visit the German and American soldier cemeteries for the soldiers killed in the Second World War.

The former US Tank General George Patton also found his final resting place in Hamm. 
Together with the Romanian city Sibiu, the city of Luxembourg was declared the culture capital 2007 of Europe, of which the natives are very proud. With arduous, hard work 600 projects and individual activities were planned for this cultural event and set on the program list throughout the entire year in the entire region of Luxembourg, Lorraine, Saarland, west Rhineland-Palatinate and Flanders.

The headquarters of this culture year are two rotundas, which were formerly known as sheds for locomotives, and were transformed to a new cultural meeting place especially for teens for the celebration year.
