Lithuania - vacation in the Baltic
Hotel, pensions and vacation homes in Lithuania
Sometime after the Iron Curtain, which separated east and west in Europe, fell, the tourism branch in Western Europe started up again with increased glances at Eastern Europe. Original landscapes which were not overrun were discovered, charming cities, mountain regions and lidos which were incomparable to the classic destinations in western tourism.
One of these glances fell upon Lithuania: on the Courland Spit for instance, a strip of land on the Baltic Sea riddled with shifting sand dunes, a small paradise for bathers. A glance fell upon the capital Vilnius, also called the Jerusalem of the East. Or upon the Aukstaitija National Park: about 100 lakes, all connected to each other and often surrounded by a forest, invite you to extended canoe tours. A glance at all this is well worthwhile... and will make you want to experience all this yourself.
Do it!
VilniusThe Old Town of Vilnius is 360 hectares in size; no other in Europe is larger or as well-preserved. The Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras have eternalized themselves in the houses and churches here. Many artists live U?upis quarter today, exhibit in galleries, sit in the cafes and in doing so –without meaning to – contribute to the flair of the quarter.
Book a vacation apartment here and you will be in the middle of everything: who knows? Maybe you will feel an urge to paint? Actually, you can not really tell that Vilnius is the capital city since life seems so contemplative and so without haste here. Perhaps that is exactly what makes this city so likeable. A large Jewish community used to live in Vilnius which is why the city is still called Jerusalem of the East today.
AccommodationsIf you take a cottage on the Courland Spit as your vacation house, the sea will soon become your friend. But maybe you are more drawn to Vilnius or
Kaunas?
Hotels, vacation apartments and pensions are all looking forward to you as their guest. And this anticipation comes from the heart.
