Liechtenstein - princely experience

Liechtenstein is a 160 square kilometer large principality in the Alps. It lies between Austria in the East and Switzerland in the West, with whom it is closely bound economically.

Many of the 36,000 inhabitants have their occupations in gastronomy or in tourism and several citizens own an apartment which they rent to tourists taking their vacation in Liechtenstein. But there are also more than enough hotels and pensions in the entire country to serve as accommodations.

Liechtenstein’s center is the capital, Vaduz. The many historic buildings and museums hold treasures in store for culturally interested visitors. The city church Saint Florin, the baronial court wine cellars or the so-called Red House are the best known sights. The landmark of the city, the Vaduz Castle, is not open to the public since the sovereign family still resides there.

The city of Triesenberg is the center of Liechtenstein’s alpine hiking region. This town, at an elevation of 900 meters above sea level, is the starting point for hikes to the Liechtenstein Alps or for tours to the 2600 meter high Grauspitz, the highest mountain in the country. Furthermore, the city is also home to an abundance of sights, such as the Peace Chapel in Malbun, the museum of local history as well as other churches.
