Lahaina – meeting point of the whaler of the 19th century

Lahaina is on the charming island of Maui. This is part of the US county Hawaii, which is located like a rope of pearls of 132 islands in the Pacific Ocean. A vacation flat, a motel or a hotel in Lahaine relocates the visitor back to the 19th century.

Than many of the old buildings are outstandingly preserved and sprinkle the charme of an era long gone by. Lahaina was meeting point of the nowadays unpopular whaler. Making a walk through the city you can walk through small shops and detect uncounted restaurants and bars. With a rental car befitting one's rank you can start the round trip of the island directly at your vacation home, the pension or the hotel. Due to the good developped road network, it is possible on one's own by implication.

Especially a drive to the 3,055 meter high Haleakala is worth one's while. This is a massive shield volcano, which stretches out for about 75 percent of the area of Maui. The name of this volcano means -translated in English- „house of the sun“.

The drive on to the huge volcano itself is an own experience. Being a bit lucky you can breach the cloud cover during the ascension and can enjoy a wunderful panoramic view due to the clear air. Having reached the peak you can go for a walking tour into the huge scratch or you can begin a search for the extremely rare Haleakala Silversword which is endangered from extinction.
