"La Isla Verde", the green island, rises 2426 meters high from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean and with that is one of the highest islands in the world. Born from volcanoes, you can still find active volcanoes on La Palma today. La Palma’s landscape has been formed by volcanoes like none of the other Canary Islands. You can still recognize the different lava streams and lava rock shapes the islands landscape.
La Palma is, however, a very diverse island. The volcano ridge intercepts the rain clouds, and this has lead to the formation of different climate and vegetation zones like lava fields, almost tropic laurel woods and also pine forests in higher regions.
