L`Isle-Sour-La-Sorge – romantic in the Venice of the Provence

L`Isle-Sour-la-Sorgue is perhaps among the most enchanting tiny cities in the hinterland of the French shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea. It is located in the east of France, the region Region Provence- Alpes-Cote d`Azur. The tiny city is surrounded by the river Sorgue and its numerous channelds and therefore remind a bit on Italy´s large city of art Venice.

L`Isle-Sour-la-Sorgue was famous being the centre of the wool processing even in the 12th century. The river Sorgue with plenty of water deliverd the drive for spinning mills and numerous mills within the area of the city. Yet even six of these impressive water wheels are preserved. They are minting together with the small channel bridges, the narrow streets which are decorated with flowers and romantic corners the face of the charming city which is visited by many day tourists.

 

Accommodation in several hotels or numerous holiday flats are available in the near proximity for longer stays. Many buildings of the historic city above them the wheat reservoir and the hospital have been built in the Gothic style. The church Notre-dame-des Anges with its attached „silver tower“ of the 13th century is a sumptuous evidence of the 13 the century.
 
L`Isle-Sour-la-Sorgue is famous far exceeding its borders for the more than 200 well-assorted antique shops and the colorful farmer´s markets. In Summer there is year after year a large antique fair, which attracts collectors and watchers from all areas of France.
