The Cyclades - Picturesque holiday havens in the sea

The Cyclades are an archipelago in the Aegean Sea southeast of the Greek capital Athens. They consist of larger islands like Euboea, Milos, Naxos or Santorin, but also of many smaller islands. Together they have an area of around 2,500 square kilometers and a population of about 100,000.

The mainly stone islands with little vegetation look back upon 5000 years of history and culture and much evidence of the so-called Cyclade culture of ancient Greece can be seen on the islands today.
On Euboea, for example, or Santorin. Today the Cyclades are one of the most visited tourist destinations of Greece.

On many of the islands, generous hotels were constructed to offer paying vacationers a wonderful stay.
Many of the natives own a vacation home which is rented out to vacationers from all over Europe and is a profitable side income. But also rich foreigners or Greeks who have made their fortunes abroad often own vacation homes or even hotels on a Cyclade Island.

Beside the classic bathing vacation, the Cyclades are a true eldorado for culturally interested guests. Especially Santorin with its amazing archaeological excavation sites of the ancient city draws many historically interested tourists.
