Katowice – From the poor village to an important industrial city

Already for a while the cities and countries which have been hidden by the iron curtain are destinations sought after, due to the fact that theses have utterly been inaccessible for many for decades.
Poland is also one of these countries whose landscapes and cities are detected by more and more tourists – like Katowice.

The capital of the voivodeship of Silesia was originally a poor village with framehouses, but however has developed in the meantime to a prospering, economically important city. The hotels in Katowice range from the simple accommodation up to the upscale standard and will let not miss you any amenity. However the boarding houses in Katowice are very popular amongst holidaymakers due to their familial atmosphere.

The city has mainly to offer several extremely interesting pieces of ecclesiastical architecture, above all the “Church of the immaculate conception”, a catholic church of the 19th century. Especially attractive is also the “Church of St. Michael” built in the year 1519, however it is completely built of lumber.
The people of Katowice are especially proud of the miners settlement Giszowiec, an archetype of the housing of the labourers and which is until now unrivalled in the whole European area.

The people here are proud of their culture, of which several interesting museums are witnesses for. So often many who are interested in arts and culture are travelling to the apartments of Katowice, who want to snuffle the atmosphere of a city and thus want to visit the different exhibitions.
