Canton Zuerich, Switzerland

 

The canton of Zurich, whose main part lies on the so-called Swiss plateau, is characterised by more hills than mountains. First and foremost, it is known as the most populous and economically strongest canton of Switzerland. But museums, art galleries, and theatres, for example in the city of Zurich, also attract many tourists, who are then very often surprised of how much beauty they find even in this densely populated area.

Visitors might discover the small municipality of Thalwil on Lake Zurich or the medieval-looking town Rapperswill, where they can enjoy themselves in the water park Alpamare. Tourists can also visit the small town Horgen, which has remained village-like and whose alleyways have never seen any cars. And they will learn that even industrial regions can be beautiful tourist destinations at the same time. Do you still need a proof? Then go to the canton of Zurich in Switzerland!

In many surrounding villages and towns the atmosphere is much quieter than in Zurich city. One of them is the town Horgen with its historical city centre and Switzerland’s biggest accessible coal mine. Other examples are the thermal baths and spas in the towns Baden and Zurzach.

About nine kilometres away from Zurich lies the village Thalwil, one of the oldest municipalities on Lake Zurich, which invites both to bathe or water sports and to boat excursions. Thalwil is a small, lovely spot of land with a very beautiful heart, flanked by deep forests.

Explore the village’s charm yourself! Winterthur, on the other hand, presents itself much more urban: particularly with children, you should visit the Technorama. More than 500 interactive experiments offer great fun and are at the same time very informative for both the young and the young at heart.
