Joachimsthal – Gateway to the picturesque scab meadows

Joachimtshal is located from Berlin to the northeastern direction. This tiny city with only 3,400 inhabitants directly borders the Werbellin and Grimnitz lake and the gateway to the scab meadows. Joachimsthal has no typical centre of the cillage, but during a walk the observers eye will be caught by the picturesque Kreuzkirche (church), the train station of the king as well as the founding building of the famous Joachimsthaler grammar school, a school for boys founded in 1607.

The old water towers has been developed to be an attractive viewing point with a lift and offers a wide view on the picturesque lake and meadow scenery of the scab meadows which is yet denominated as preservation area of the UN. Excursion boats with excursions on the Werbellin lake start at the ferry pier.

Joachimsthal is a family friendly holiday location which offers his guests many accomodations in holiday flats, boarding houses and a small hotel within the village but also before the village boundaries in the EJB at the Werbellin lake. The EJB is a famous leisure facility of Brandenburg and meeting spot for the European youth. Trips can be made to the ship hoist Niederfinow, the cloister Chorin or the wonderful natural experience scenery called Blumberger Mill.

The location of Joachimsthal at the long-haul bicycle trail Berlin-Usedom and the holiday route  „Märkische Eiszeitstraße“ is especially interesting for cyclists.

During the summer also those loving swimming and people making a day excursion populate the lakes. Raft and boat tours as well as diving trips are amongst the leisure activities in and around Joachimsthal.
