Enjoy the beautiful sand beaches on the island Poel

Poel is the most western island in the Baltic Sea of all which located in the German state of „Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania“ and located northern of the Hanseatic city Wismar. In the meantime Poel is connected with the mainland with a naturally grown over causeway supplemented by a bridge. The tiny little town Faehrdorf directly behind the embankment welcomes the tourist. 

The largest village of the island is named Kirchdorf, starting there all more settlements like Gollwitz to the Northeast and Timmendorf to the West can be reached. There is a small harbour in Kirchdorf, where shipping to Wismar is offered. The brick stone church and the museum of local history are well worth a visit.

Also the largest hotels and boarding houses of the island are located in Kirchdorf, however additionally holiday flats are located everywhere. A large camping ground can be found at the beach of Timmendorf, not far from the small lighthouse which has become to be a centre iof attraction together with the picturesque harbour. 
It is an outstanding experience to explore the island by foot or with the bike. The trails are signposted very clearly. It is possible to bike or hike nearly continousely at the waterfront from the beach of Timmendorf through Schwarzer Busch up to Gollwitz. Layout will find the most beautiful beaches there, with fine-grained pale sand, many beach chairs and the best water quality.

The water is so smooth at Gollwitz that a proper water hike can be made, amongst others to an offshore sand bank.
