Korcula – The small „green island“

The island Korcula is located at the southern strip of the Croatian coast and belongs to the region Dalmatia. By the mild climate it allures all year round visitor from all over the world to the hotels, pensions, summer cottages and holiday apartments to this sunny island.

In contrast to Peljesac it is called the „Green Island“ of Dalmatia. On the island you have continuous transportation as busses e.g. to Lumbarda, Vela Luka and Korcula city. Vela Luka, e.g., is the second largest town of the island and is situated in a bay on the west side.

There you should get very well pickled anchovies. Indeed, you need to ask the locals directly for it, because the old fish-canning factory is put out of action. Even if no anchovies are bought, there are enough culinary treats. While visiting the Mediterranean region the wine, olives and even at Kocurla, the citrus fruits are on top of the visitor’s menu.

Of course there are also wonderful beaches which invite to endless walks in the crystal-clear blue water. There is also the possibility to rent a bicycle or to try in a water sport. From the comfortable hotel, the pension, the summer cottage or the holiday apartment you could take the ferry to Orebic which is located on the neighbouring island Peljesac.

There you can visit a Franciscan's cloister and take a look at the nicest panorama of the country.
