Reykjanes - Holiday in the loneliness of the fjord

Reykjanes is a peninsula in the Northwestern part if Iceland.  It is located in a region of the island which is rugged by the Sea, more exactly spoken at the Breidafjördür, one if the most famous fjords of Iceland. The name of the fjord has a meaning so far as "broad fjord" and this fjord really opens like a broad funnel before the eye of the viewer. It is 40 kilometres wide at its broadest spot. The world of the peninsula of Reykjanes enables you to have a breathtaking view on the Atlantic Ocean. 

The reach of the animals in this part of Iceland is spectacular. Petrels, cormorants, sea eagles, seagulls, puffings and fulmars live here. Also common seals can be found at the beach. This edge of Iceland is absolutely perfect for all who are loving the nature. Likewise for those people who simple want to relax from the daily life and want to experience the simple life itself.

 

Because at many boarding houses of the region reykjanes it is yet really simple - in return the wood and stone houses with the grass-covered roofs often have an inimitable charme.  Naturally there also some small hotels in the main villages and above all at Reykholar.

The holidaymaker experiences the idyllic life of a small icelandic village in Reykholar which has only approximately 300 inhabitants. A small church allures the people for a church service, otherwise they are busy with their horses and farms. And they are really happy when holidaymakers find a path to this area.
