Riders and horses in the Puszta
Riders and horses in the Puszta
Hungary - the very word evokes hot paprika, dancing Sinti and Roma, hospitality, racing horses, good wine. Racka sheep and Grey cows roam the puszta here. Mounted shepherds still round up their flocks with a great deal of skill, whilst in autumn thousands of cranes sour over their heads.

The waves beat quietly on the shores of Lake Balaton, also called the Hungarian lake, whose waters are tempting in summer at temperatures of 21 °C to 27 °C. Things step up a pace in Budapest with its bars and pubs, not to mention its romantic coffee houses. Enjoy the lively atmosphere in a city which is one of UNESCO´s world heritage sites. Hungary has many faces. Choose a holiday house, apartment, hotel or a pension in anywhere in this country: wherever you stay, you will certainly not be disappointed.

Lake Balaton.
At 595 km² it is the largest lake in Central Europe. Entering the lake from its southern banks, the water becomes very gradually deeper. With an average depth of 3.5 metres, lake Balaton is ideal as a holiday destination for families with children. The northern bank falls away rather more sharply making it the favourite for keen swimmers. There are many sunbathing areas where you can catch some rays before plunging into the cool waters of the lake. At Siófok on the southern bank and in a few places on the northern side there are sand beaches, water slides and bouncy castles to entertain Hungary´s smaller guests. Adults can attend a sailing course or put their sailing knowledge into practice on a sailing tour on Lake Balaton. Talking of watersports, Lake Balaton is by no means the only place in Hungary where these are on offer. Perhaps you would prefer a holiday home on lake Tisza where you can hire a motorboat or go water skiing? Or what about a canoe trip on the Danube? And if you do opt for Lake Balaton, the surrounding area is ideal for exploration on horse or bike. Plan a tour to the more distant marshes of the smaller Balaton: here the mighty Hungarian buffalo, amongst the oldest species of animal in the country, can still be found grazing.

Other regions of Hungary
Do you know the Tokaj region? Its dessert wine is known worldwide and comes from the area around the town of Tokaj, which is located in northern Hungary: treat you and your friends to a glass. In Northern Hungary Kékes, at 1014 meters high the highest mountain in the country, is waiting to be discovered. Surrounded by mountains and sitting on the shores of lake Hámori, the spa resort of Lillafüred is also part of the region. For many, it is the most beautiful health resort in the country. Transdanubia, also known as Pannonia, is a region west and south of the Danube. The landscape here is rich in unique attractions: you could visit the country´s largest baroque castle, the first christian church or the only surviving medieval castle in Hungary. Transdanubia is divided into western, central and southern Transdanubia. Perhaps you will visit the thousand-year-old Pannonhalma abbey in west Transdanubia, close to the the town of Györ, which is an UNESCO world heritage site? Or one of the region´s numerous spas, where you can really relax? The city of Pécs, famous as a centre for arts and one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Hungary, is located in south Transdanubia and has a near mediterranean climate, making it an excellent location for a holiday home.

Budapest
Hungary´s capital cannot be overlooked. Buda is a relatively hilly part of the city, whilst Pest is flatter; the two - separated by the Danube - together make up Budapest. Nine main bridges cross the river Danube, of which the chain bridge - a true symbol of the city - is the oldest. Budapest´s history is characterised by periods of destruction and constant re-construction, with the result that many different historical epochs meet here. Around 20% of all Hungarians live in Budapest who, along with uncountable people of other nationalities, bring the city to life. Here you will find living embodiment of a united Europe.

Accommodation
Naturally there are many hotels, pensions, holiday homes and apartments by Lake Balaton, one of Hungary´s most popular holiday destinations. Perhaps you would prefer a mountain region, maybe a holiday apartment in a house that appears more like a palace? Renovated farms, manor house style buildings, classical Grand Hotels - you choose where you would like to spend the night. And treat yourself to a simply wonderful time.
