However it is located within the English Channel near to the French coast of the Bretagne Guernsey never belonged to France. In former times – during the governance of the Normans it was awarded to Great Britain. It is still associated to it.  By now Guernsey is independent and not a member of the EU. It has a climate which nearly could be denominated to be subtropical. Even bananas and palms are flourishing here. There is an own currency – the Guernsey Pound, the island issues its own stamps and is additionally known as a tax payer´s paradise.
 
Less industry however the dominating growing of flowers and the dairy cattle farming mint the island. There is even an own species of animals: the Guernsey rind. The astonishingly wavy island is a paradise for hikers and has much to offer with its comprehensive flora and bird life.
