Mainland Greece- An Overlooked Beauty

The beauty of the Greek islands is very well known. But mainland Greece, though not as popular, is home to some of the most interesting and beautiful sites. Most travel agents have piles and piles of literature about the islands of Greece but very little information about the mainland.

For example, there is an area on mainland Greece called Peloponessos that is home to magnificent beaches, majestic mountains and interesting little towns.

The Diros Caves are an amazing natural attraction on mainland Greece along with the Santorini volcano. If you visit the Byzantine city of Mystras you can look out over the historical city of Sparta.

If you crave the nightlife you will want to visit the city of Nafplio. Here you will find many terrific restaurants, ouzeries and nightclubs.  And the town of Kalavrita boasts great skiing on beautiful mountains and a narrow gauge train that climbs past waterfalls and the spectacular Cave of the Lakes.
