Glienicke: Arcadia in Berlin

Castle Park Glienicke

The town Glienicke is situated in the Berlin district Steglitz-Zehlendorf. In the southwest of the town the place adjoins to Potsdam and belongs to the district Wannsee. The most important place of interest is the castle Schloss Glienicke, the former summer residence of the prince Carl of Prussia.

World cultural heritage: Castle and Park Glienicke
The castle, embedded in the park scenery of Glienicke, is a component of a building ensemble of the first half of the 19th century of art, architecture- and cultural-historical meaning and is as a world cultural heritage under the protection of the UNESCO for about 20 years: the so-called Prussian Arcadia “preussische Arkadien”.

Since 1981 it acts as a museum, which accomodates furniture of Schinkel and other objects of art.

Arcadia with direct connection to the centre
Glienicke is one of the nicest places of Berlin. In the forest Grunewald located at the Wannsee, a stone’s throw away from Potsdam, it offers with its small, partly historical hotels and dreamy holiday apartments the suitable base for a Berlin visit. Here you can be relax with water sport and wellness in historical ambience – and it is only 25 minutes away from Berlin centre.
