Bad Gastein-the skyscraper village

Bad Gastein is a health resort steeped in tradition in the village of Gastein beneath the mountain Graukogel in the Upper Tauern. Already since the mediaeval times spa- and remedial cures are organised in the municipality.

Bad Gastein impresses its visitors by a unique position all around a waterfall which shuts down in the middle of the town by 300 m. The streets of the town surmount altitude differences of 200 m and up from the middle of the local town - unique in Europe - over more than 13 floors a lift shepherds to the extent of the railway station. The houses were established as high-rise buildings and the town got the sobriquet "Skyscraper village" to the place. 

 

 

 

Guests find lodgings at hotels steeped in tradition which already originated about 1885, as the "Grand Hotel de l’ Europe" or the "Weismayr" or in nice holiday apartments in altitudes or with view to the waterfall. The profit of the cures is pandered to the healing water and the ionised air.

The alpine- and rocks-thermae, the radon galleries of Gastein and the movement arena with a total of 120 km of signposted travelling routes belong to the establishment. In summer vacationers and golfer are coming to Bad Gastein and enjoy the Alps, the excellent golf course and the mountain panorama.

In winter three big skiing areas of the valley are inviting: the mountains Stubnerkogel and Graukogel and especially the snow-guaranteed Sportgsstein which is situated at 2,650-m height.
