Region Galicien, Spanish (mainland)

Land of Celtic bagpipe music, rugged fjords and endless woodland: although this description could be a mixture of Ireland and Norway, Galicia is located in the northwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula. Separated from the rest of Spain by a natural mountainous border, an own culture with its own language has developed here over the centuries.

Every year, pilgrims from the entire world walk the famous Way of St. James, whose destination is the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. But apart from hiking trails, there are also numerous cycling paths, particularly mountain bike paths, through the evergreen forests. Tourists will find the Galician holiday home of their dreams there. The view of the horizon from Europe’s highest cliff near San Andrés de Teixido is always worth a rest.

Somewhere near the industrial and commercial centre Vigo lies the local recreational paradise Islas Cíes, which offers both an impressing diversity of birds and wonderful sandy beaches on the Atlancic Ocean, which is otherwise extremely rough.

A nice dinner with a bottle of wine and seafood of the Atlantic Ocean, accompanied by bagpipe music, makes the day perfect before you collapse into bed with fatigue in your holiday flat, remembering the impressions of the afternoon. On the next day, you could visit the seat of the archbishop and the World Heritage Site Santiago de Compostela or the Roman settlement La Coruña, where the oldest lighthouse of the world, the Tower of Hercules, offers a different view of your guesthouse and the wide Atlantic Ocean.
