The white city Funchal extends over a big sea--bay along itself and offers many places worth seeing. Beside historic churches, fortresses and the buildings of the Zona Velha, particularly the beautiful parks of the city are worth a longer visit. Two modern cable railways lead to the famous Monte Palace Tropical Garden, where also an Africa-und mineral-museum is located. A bird-park connects directly to it. The way back could take place with a trip in the particular basket-sleigh Funchals. It lasts approximately 15 minutes. An orchid-garden with more than 50.000 types is located below the Monte.
