Fredensborg – Summer residence of the Royal family

Fredensborg is a Danish municipality on the land amidst the North Sea between Helsingor and Hillerod. Approximately 20,000 people live in the beautiful tiny village with its picturesque surrounding.

The castle Fredensborg, build 1720-1722 is the main attraction and sight of the municipality one of the most remarkable buildings of the Northern baroque. The name „Fredensborg“ which would be denominated „peace castle“ in English should remember to the peace between Denmark and Sweden after the end of the large Northern War.
The complex is used as accommodation of the Danish royal family during the summer months.

The number of tourists is steadily rising and many holiday homes, holiday flats and thus some hotels. The near proximity of Fredensborg invites for relaxing walks. The park which is adjacent to the castle extends to the shore of the Esrom lake, the second largest lake of Denmark.
70 sand stone figures are well worth a visit. They have been made approximately 200 years ago and show people of the baroque era in situations of the daily life.
A convenient walk of only some minutes enables you to reach the famous restaurant „Storekro“ where exclusive Danish dish is served.

The „Museum for Modern Art Louisiana“ has been opened in 1959. Nature, architecture and the art of the 20th century combine here in an outstanding manner. Playing golf, fishing, a visit of a falconry or watching of the local sea life at the aquarium are some activities well worth during a stay with the cordial hosts in the holiday flats or holiday homes in Fredensborg.
