The District of Grevenmacher is not only the stronghold of winegrowing along the River Moselle; this Luxembourgian city, which lies idyllically in the middle of vineyards, still offers many other sights apart from its famous sparkling wine. Just as the rest of Luxembourg, Grevenmacher can look back on a chequered history.

The fortifications, which were built in the 12th century by the counts of Luxembourg due to their proximity to the German border, were attacked by the troops of the French Sun King. During the Austrian-French war, the city was also a point of contention between Napoleon and Joseph II.

Today, Grevenmacher is an upcoming metropolis, which is, apart from being a famous wine-growing area, also an important business and administration centre of the state of Luxembourg.
