Cornwall - County, Jamaica

 

Cornwall is not only a charming region in Great Britain, but also a county in western Jamaica which is, however, just as lovely for a vacation. Administratively, Cornwall is subdivided into five regions, the parishes.
Hanover Parish received its name from the Hanover noble house and the city of Lucea was the most important harbor of the island until 1983. Today, the most important export harbor is found in the Saint Elizabeth Parish, where you will also find traces of the Tanio, Jamaica’s original inhabitants. The Saint James Parish is a tourist paradise. Some tourist destinations are the Rose Hall haunted house, the old fort, the slave jail „The Cage“ and the place where Sam Sharpe, the leader of the slave rebellion of 1831, was executed.

Trelawney Parish is an unspoiled region and is home to many rare birds and plants. The countless caves are especially attractive. Christopher Columbus landed in the Westmoreland Parish. Today, it draws tourists, primarily to Negrill with its long sand beaches.

Cornwall’s largest city is Montego Bay, which in the past, was the scene of many rebellions and conflicts. Today, mainly wealthy tourists who relax on the white beaches form the street scene here.

The most popular beaches since the 70ies are Doctor’s Cave and White Sands. The hotels, motels and holiday resorts tempt you with diverse sporting possibilities, yachting and wellness offers.
