Cordillera, Luzon

Region Cordillera - the mountains of the Isle Luzon

The region of Cordillera lies in the northern area of the island of Luzon. It consists of six smaller provinces, which lie in the mountain-region of the „Philippine Cordillera „. The highest census is Pulag the 2922 m high mountain. Over the region, four national-parks stretch, which lock up the dissimilar mountain. The well-known nature-park is the "Cassamata Hill national-park ".

The region of Cordillera is only rarely populated. The mountains are also home of several trunks of Philippine natives, among others the people of the Igoroten. 
A good exit-place for trips through the area is the regional centre, the university-city Baguio. Several motels and hotels are directly in the city, but also on the way tourists find good housings in motels or guest houses. Very hospitable people live in the mountains.

The Rice terraces of Banaue are among the most important and oldest sights in the north of Luzons They belong to the world-culture-heritage of the mankind. Hidden deeply in the mountains, they were positioned since 2.000 years of the people of the Ifugao and were farmed until today.

Also the numerous gigantic caves at Sagada are worth a visit. To the most important caves belong the branched walks of the " Callao belong - and Sumagiung Cave " and the ritual burial-places of the Igoroten in the "Lumiang Burial Cave".
