Austria A Country Of Castles

Surrounded by Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Hungary, Austria has a rich and old history as told by the many castles and fortresses found throughout the countryside. 

Most people dream of skiing in the Alps or attending a concert in Vienna when they think of visiting Austria. But the Austrian countryside has many historic castles to be explored and remembered.

Although castles in Austria were originally built as protection from warring militaries, this protection was completely lost with the invention of bombs.  Most of the castles in Austria serve as living quarters for artists or have become tourist attractions and resorts. 

Most of the construction of castles in Austria started in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, but additions and alterations have been continuous through today. 

Many of these castles have been converted into five star accommodations for fascinated travelers fulfilling a dream of staying in a castle.  Vacationers flock to these hotels to soak up the grandeur and history only a castle can provide.
