Capital Region- Metro Manila, the economic heart of the Philippines

The Capital Region of the Philippines –also called Metro Manila - is located on the northern island Luzon. It consists of the capital Manila and 16 additional cities that have grown together to an economically strong region with approximately 15 million inhabitants.

Metro Manila extends from the west - up to the coast and lies between the Manila Bay and the extensive Laguna de Bay.  Manila stretches at the Manila Bay. Approximately 1.6 millions of people live in the area of the capital. 

The touristic centre of Metro Manila is near the southern harbour, at which are the berths of cruise-ships. The most important sights  are - by  a defence-wall  enclosed - old part of town-quarter Intramuros and the Rizal park, which connect the waterfront with the eastern amusement - and purchase-quarters Ermita and Malate. Particularly in Ermita, are numerous international hotels and in the well- known Mabini - Street individual travellers find affordable overnight stay-possibilities in motels and pensions.

Beside the colourful markets and stores in Chinatown, also shopping sprees offer themselves in the big, air-conditioned Shopping mall.  From the bustling capital region well attainable are the northern part Luzon with its spectacular cave-systems, long sandy beaches and mountain-regions.
