Cairo – The most fascinating Metropolis of Africa

Cairo – the capital city of Egypt – is the biggest city on the African continent. Besides its more than 15 million inhabitants, the cultural and economic centre attracts about 3 million commuters and an uncountable amount of tourist every day. The infrastructure is no more up to the immense mass of people and traffic, so Cairo only looks loud and stuffy at the first sight.

But the city has many faces and after a short time the tourist will no longer feel like a guest but like a member, due to the hospitality of the Egyptian people. Cairo is full of ancient Egyptian, Islamic and Christian cultural monuments – it is fascinating with history as well as with modernity.

The Islamic Cairo with its lively bazaars enables the visitor to experience the everyday life and many monuments like the Ibn Tulun-Mosque, the citadel or the Sultan Hassan-Mosque, the most impressive place of worship in Cairo, are testifiers of the omnipresent religious life.

Also the Christian roots can be rediscovered in the Coptic Quarter. The oldest and most beautiful Christian church of Egypt is located there. The treasures of the Pharaohs are kept in the National Museum of Cairo; the most famous exhibits are the burial objects of Pharaoh Tutankhamen. Cairo has many accommodations: hotels, motels and holiday-apartments or houses of any price range are available.
